Movement of Backward Class Scool

As a part of the freedom movement, Shri Bhai Saththa founded a boarding school in Ahmednagar. The school became the center of the freedom movement of the Ahmednagar district. The school provided vocational training and lessons on the independence struggle. But the British noticed it and prohibited the school. And they sealed it too. They stopped the grant. The school was about to close. Com. Abasaheb Kakade and his followers determined to run the school at any cost, as many pupils were learning in it. Frightened by the government, people, willing to help, would not come forward to help it. In spite of the government’s wrath, com. Abasaheb Kakade, Madhukarao Katre, and Kamgar Kisan Party workers started a campaign to collect food grain for inmates. With help of devoted followers, they collected food grain by jeep, on a bicycle, sometimes on foot. Thus the boarding school survived.

There weren’t any educational facilities at the rural level, not even at taluka place. There was tremendous poverty. It was hard to have two-time meals for most of the pupils. Educational facilities were in cities. But poor pupils from the rural areas left the school incomplete due to a lack of food and residence. Because of the lack of food supplies and residential facilities, children of the poor and the farmers gave up their education. Realizing the need of the hour, Shri Bhai Saththa founded a hostel at Ahmednagar. In this boarding children of the backward, the poor, etc. lived and learned. Shri Sant Gadge Maharaj often visited and stayed in the hostel.

Com. Abasaheb Kakade launched St. Gadge Maharaj Chhatralaya at Shevgaon in his own house in 1955. He also started St. Gadge Maharaj Kanya Chhatralaya at Shevgaon to provide educational facilities to girls. He provided drinking water by digging a well in the premise of boarding. He looked after them very carefully and used to dine with them. Prof. Damodhar Jadhav, Funde Guruji(Primary teacher), and Hon. Pandharinath Bargaje – (former M.D. of Mula co-operative sugar factory) was brought up in the boarding school. He set up boarding schools at Dhorjalgaon(She), Shahartakali, Chapadgaon, Amrapur, Kambi, Bhatkudgaon, Mangrul, from Shevgaon taluka, Pathardi, and Bhalegaon from Pathardi taluka and Karjat from Karjat taluka in Ahmednagar district(Maharashtra). In the absence of any fund from the government, just like he collected food grain for A’nagar boarding school, he made some effort for boarding school at Shevgaon, Pathardi, and Karjat with the help of his colleagues. Thus they stored food grain from various villages. Children of poor, laborers, farm-workers, cane-workers, and the neglected by society were given learning opportunities through these boarding schools. He started lower and higher remand homes for orphan children, children who deprived of their parents’ love and affection. He showered the same on them.
